Decades of Experience, Backed by Licensed ProfessionalS
Founded in 2011 by Lauren and Todd Holland, School of Surf brings over 30 years of surfing and coaching expertise to Cocoa Beach. Todd spent more than a decade competing on the ASP World Tour, achieving wins and ranking among the top 8 surfers in the world. Lauren is a decorated east coast competitor and former member of the U.S. Amateur Surfing Team. Together, they’ve built a school that blends world-class experience with a passion for teaching.
Unlike many unlicensed operators, we are fully licensed, insured, and committed to maintaining the highest safety standards. All instructors are background-checked, CPR/BLS certified, and trained to deliver lessons that prioritize student well-being. This foundation of professionalism sets us apart and ensures every student learns in a safe, structured environment.
Our Services
Surf Lessons for Every Level
At School of Surf, we offer flexible lesson options designed to fit your goals and comfort level. Choose a private one-on-one lesson for the most personalized experience, a semi-private lesson for two, or group lessons for three or more participants.
Each lesson begins with classroom instruction covering safety, equipment handling, and proper technique. Once students are comfortable, they move to the beach for water practice, with an instructor by their side at all times. Safety, structure, and fun are built into every session.
Spring & Summer Camps
Our seasonal children’s camps provide a safe and exciting way for kids to experience surfing. Offered in spring and summer, these camps are designed to teach fundamentals while building confidence in the water. Campers learn proper technique, ocean safety, and how to ride waves under the guidance of our certified instructors.
For advanced young surfers, we also offer after-school competitive coaching through the Todd Holland Surf Team in the fall and spring. This program provides focused training for students ready to take their skills to the next level.

Our instructors are more than just experienced surfers—they’re trained professionals who understand the responsibility of teaching in the ocean. Each member of our team is CPR/BLS certified, background-checked, and skilled in adapting lessons to meet the needs of every student, from first-time surfers to advanced competitors.
Lauren McLean
Former United States Surf Team member and several East Coast titles under her belt, Lauren has been teaching surfing for over 20 years. Lauren is our owner/ Master Instructor for lessons. Great for female instructor requests! Teaches all levels of surfing and always is excited as you are in your lesson!
Todd Holland
Former top 10 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP World Tour). Competed on the tour over 10 years winning several events. Todd is our owner/Master Instructor of Camps and coaches upon request. Does really well for those who already know how to surf and want to progress or figure out their equipment.
Forrest
Forrest grew up in a surfing family here in Cocoa Beach and has worked for us for years on and off since the beginning. From being a top competitor on the Cocoa Beach High School Surf team, to one of Cocoa Beach’s top Lifeguard Captains, we are honored to have him manage our surf camps and now our year round Head Instructor. He is great with kids and is very patient while giving thorough instruction. He has several repeat customers that rave about his performance. You’ll have a great, safe experience with his lessons by your side.
